A healthy plan for the whole family:
Each family needs to be aware of the factors contributing to this growing problem and address them as a team. Each day family members head out in many different directions but they inevitably return by bedtime, so home base is the best place to engender a healthier lifestyle for everyone in the household.

I have developed a simple, daily charting system called DEWS which has helped me lose weight and maintain better health and fitness habits. I am convinced that it can work for families as well. With just four blocks to fill in with markers, crayons or stickers, even the littlest ones can be involved and compete on a par with adults. The spirit of friendly competition can only add to the success of the plan. The charts are totaled every four weeks so monthly rewards can be added to keep the competition even livelier.

DEWS is an acronym for the four positive things each person tries to accomplish each day. It stands for Drink water, Exercise, Watch your eating, and Steer clear of ______ing _________. This last one is defined by each participant as he determines his biggest challenge. A young child probably won't have an unhealthy habit to fit the 'S' definition so a daily activity for which he is responsible, like making his bed or feeding a pet, can be substituted. There are many books and articles available by learned authors addressing these subjects in detail. I am not one of those professionals, just a regular person who tries to stay educated by reading what they write. You too will need to refer to the experts to safely define these things for your family. What I will take credit for is creating a way to live healthier and happier by being accountable on a daily basis. Utilizing DEWS correctly and honestly can be very rewarding. Filling in all four blocks at bedtime feels like getting an 'A' on a test, and filling in four or more solid days in a row is extremely gratifying. Perfection every day is not expected and will not happen. Success is defined as 85% or higher. That gives you a little leeway, about four blocks a week. And using half blocks when you've been good but not quite good enough for a full block will provide a more accurate account of your progress. Food VEGETABLE BEAN SOUP (Low Fat Recipe)


Ingredients

Dried navy beans: 1 pound
Water: 8 cups
Dried basil: 2 teaspoons
Salt: 1 1/2 teaspoons
Dried marjoram: 1 teaspoon
Pepper: 1/4 teaspoon
Chopped onion: 2 cups
Sliced zucchini: 2 cups
Chopped celery: 1 cup
Chopped red bell pepper: 1 cup
Sliced carrot: 1 cup
Garlic cloves, minced: 6
Tomato paste: 1 (6-ounce) can
Grated fresh Romano cheese: 1/3 cup

Directions

Firstly, sort the beans, wash them and then place in a large Dutch oven. Now, cover the beans with water to 2 inches and bring to a boil. Then cook for 2 minutes. Remove from the oven; cover and let it cool down for 60 minutes. Now drain beans and put back into the pan.

Add 8 cups water and next 5 ingredients (water through pepper) and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 1 1/2 hours. Add onion and next 5 ingredients (onion through garlic); simmer, uncovered, 50 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Add tomato paste. stir it well; cook for more 10 minutes. Your delicious vegetable beans soup is ready.

Chocolate Drink Recipe


Ingredients:

Milk, one glass. Coffee, 1 tsp. soft Chocolate ice-cream, 2Tsp.
sugar, to taste. Hard chocolate, to sprinkle. Ice-cubes, as required.

Method:

Put the glass of milk and coffee in the blender, along with some sugar to taste and ice-cubes as you required. Blend them and then put mixture into the fine glass, then add two table spoon soft ice-cream into it, then without mixing the ice-cream, sprinkle some hard chocolate over it and enjoy.

Chicken Baryni


Ingredients:
1kg chicken
½ onion, grated
½ cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
4-5 cups basmati rice
3 teaspoons oil
2 table spoons baryani spice mix
2 tablespoons ginger paste
1 teaspoon salt
2 chilies, finely chopped
1 slice bread
14 ounce diced tomatoes
2 teaspoon garlic past


How to make: Put onion, cilantro, ginger, baryani masala. Salt, chilies, and bread slice in food process. Mix the mixture with grounded chicken pieces. Make rice in rice cooker. Make chicken balls and fry in oil. Set the chicken balls aside. Fry onions until golden brown. Add baryani spice mix, garlic paste, and ginger paste, and tomatoes. Fry for 10 minutes. Add chicken balls back inches, add enough water to almost cover chicken balls. Cook for 15 minutes on low heat with cover on and then cook for 10 minutes cover off to dry water a little. When rice is cooked, layer rice and chicken balls mixture. You can also add food color, in order to make it more tempting. Put the mix in oven on low. Set at 300 degrees F. Cook for 30 minutes.

Spicy Spaghetti


Ingredients:Fresh boiled spaghetti: 1 packet or as you required
Chicken (in pieces): ½ Kg
Canned green peas: 1 cup
Potatoes (in slices): 1-2, like finger chips
Seedless green chili: 4-5
Thin Carrot slices: as much you want
Finely chopped Ice berg: only 1 small sized
Tomato paste: 3-4 tbsp
Garlic paste: 1 tbsp
Red chili powder: 1tbsp
Oregano: 1tsp
Cream cheese: 3-4 tbsp
Oil: as required
Salt: to taste

Method: Heat some oil in a heavy based pan. Add garlic paste first then red chili powder and salt and sauté until slightly golden. Then add boiled chicken pieces and tomato paste and cook over low heat until the gravy thickens. In a separate bowl, take all the vegetables (fried or boiled), add cream cheese, oregano, and the chicken puree, into it. Mix all the ingredients well and cook over low heat for 3-4 minutes. Check seasoning. Dish out this mixture on the top of boiled hot spaghtti and garnish accordingly. Serve hot, yummy spaghetti with tomato ketchup and some chopped basil and enjoy.


Cappuccino Cheesecake


For all of you who have a sweet tooth must be aware of the sweet, savoring experience of spoiling your taste buds by delighting yourself with the cheesecakes.
Cheesecake is an ‘all seasons’ most favored delight. Today’s menu includes Cappuccino cheesecake for a serving of 10 people.
For making a cappuccino cheesecake we’ll require:
1. All purpose flour 3 Tbsp
2. Eggs 4 large
3. Sour cream 1 measuring cup
4. Sugar 1 measuring cup and separate 2 Tbsp
5. Cream cheese (softened) 32 ounces
6. Margarine (melted) 3 Tbsp
7. Instant coffee grains 1Tbsp
(finely powdered)
8. Cinnamon ¼ tsp
9. Finely chopped nuts 1 ½ measuring cup
10. Water (simmering) ¼ measuring cup
Procedure
Firstly, mix together the nuts, 2 Tbsp sugar and margarine. Make sure you take proper measurements of the ingredients you are adding all the way through. Take a 9-inch spring-form cake pan and press this mixture onto bottom of the pan. Place it in the oven and bake it at a premium heat of 325 degrees F for approximately 10 minutes. Now, mix together cream cheese, sugar and flour at a medium speed using an electric mixer until it is properly blended.
Next, put in eggs, one at a time, until it is properly mixed. Add sour cream and blend thoroughly.
Add the coffee and cinnamon powder in the boiling water and let it cool for sometime.
Now, slowly add it to the cream cheese mixture and mix well. Pour the mixture over the baked crust and bake at 450 degrees F for approximately another 10 minutes.
After the recommended duration, reduce heat to 250 degrees F and maintain baking for another hour. Once, out of the oven, gently remove the cake from the pan and refrigerate it.
Decorate it with whipped cream and you may also use whole coffee beans or grated chocolate if pleases you

Low Baked Potatoes with Sweet Chilli and Tuna Toppings


‘Low fat baked potatoes’ is very easy to prepare and hardly takes 20 minutes to prepare.
Ingredients:
• Potatoes (large and about 740 g or over 1 pound) 4
• Canned Tuna (in spring water) 425 g (13 oz)
• Spring onions (sliced) 2
• Tomato (chopped) 1
• Gherkins (chopped) 2
• Sweet chilli sauce 1/4 cup
• Lemon juice 1 Tbs
• Parsley (chopped) 1 Tbs
• Salt and pepper according to taste
• Low fat sour cream 1 cup

Preparations
To start with, preheat your oven at 200 C (400 F). After that, jab in the potatoes with a fork and place them on a microwave safe glass bowl. Cover it with glad wrap and nuke it for approximately 20 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare the filling for the potatoes. For that, use your tuna, spring onions, tomato, gherkins, sweet chilli sauce, sour cream and parsley into a bowl and mix them up. Add salt and pepper according to taste. When the potatoes are nuked and softened as you need, drain the potatoes carefully (since the water and steam are hot) and place them into the oven for 5 minutes or so till the skin becomes brown, after baking. Remove the potatoes from the oven, and make a cross shape cut in the top of each potato, pushing up the sides, while making space for the filling. Lastly, spoon over the filling onto each cut, made for the filling. Voila! A low fat yet delicious and healthy meal is on way to your tummies! Fat: 6.5 g Cal: 335 KJ: 1395
It can be served to four people, and has a total fat of 6.5 g (335 Cal /1395 KJ). Incase some of you out there don’t have much affinity for tuna, you may use any topping, according to your taste and desire

Macaroni 75 grams
Cheese sauce
Grated cheese 50g

Method:

Toasted Almond Crescent


Ingredients

Plain Flour 125g
Salt ½ Teaspoon
Unsalted butter 125g (softened)
Icing sugar 85g (sifted)
Vanilla essence ½ Teaspoon
Almond essence ½ Teaspoon
Toasted Almonds 50g (chopped)
Method:

Preheat the oven to 160C/325F/Gas mark3. Sift the flour and salt together. Set aside. Using an electric mixer, cream the butter and icing sugar until the mixture become smooth. Than mix vanilla & almond essence, and toasted almonds in it. Then add the flour mixture and mix until the dough forms.
Taking two teaspoons of dough at a time make forms into 6cm/ 2 ½ inch long cylinders. Taper the ends and curve into crescent shapes. Place the crescents 2.5 cm/ 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for about 25 minutes or until the ends and bottoms of the cookies are golden.
Transfer to a wire rack and leave to cool for about 15 minutes. Sift the remaining icing sugar into a bowl. Roll the cookies in the sugar until they are evenly coated.

Enjoy the delicious and delightful sugar coated Almond crescent.

Mozzarella Sandwiches


Ingredients:

4 slices Mozzarella Cheese
8 slice sandwich loaf bread
5 eggs
4 tablespoons milk
1 cup flour oil for frying
Pinch of salt

Method:

Trim the mozzarella as necessary. Cover 4 slices of bread top, trim and remove the crusts. Then cut sandwich in half. In a mixing bowl, lightly beat the eggs with milk and salt.
Pour mixture into a dish slightly larger than the sandwiches.

Spread the flour on the plate and place each sandwich on it. Pressing down lightly on each side, gently put each sandwich in the batter. Press towards downward direction, some of the mixture to soak. Turn the sandwich over and repeat the process. Drain over the dish and put to one side. Heat oil in a pan, then Place the sandwich and fry both sides until golden.

Drain well on paper or tissue and then serve with the ketchup.

Flaked Salmon Salad with Black Beans and Broccoli

Ingredients


For Dressing you need:

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 cup fat free vinaigrette
Juice of 1 large lemon

For Salad you will require:

12 ounces boneless salmon fillet
2 cups of chopped broccoli
1 15.5-ounce canned black beans (drained and well-rinsed)
1 cup tomatoes, halved

4 cups torn assorted salad greens (trimmed, washed, and dried)
1 bunch fresh basil (washed)
2 carrots, peeled and cut into long strips


Directions:

Beat together olive oil, vinaigrette, lemon juice, and mustard.

Preheat oven to 400°F. Put your salmon in a small pan and cook for approximately10-20 minutes, depending on how thick is your fish. Once cooled, flake the salmon into bite-able pieces using a fork.

In the meantime, take two cups of water and boil it in a sauce pan. Add broccoli and boil for 1 minute or until florets turn bright green. Drain the water and let cold water run over it for some time. After draining the water properly, put it in a large bowl and add the previously made dressing and toss well.

Take another bowl and mix together bits of salmon black beans, and tomatoes. Add salt and pepper. Take the salad greens and basil and divide them in 4 plates. Crown it with broccoli and salmon mixture and dress up with peeled carrot strips.


It is a 4 people serving and can easily be prepared in 20 minutes to the maximum.

Ingredient

16ounces (1 pound) cooked chicken cubed pieces or chicken or beefsausages
12 eggs
2tb milk
2tb butter or margarine
24 tortilla breads
2cups shredded Cheddar cheese,

Preparation Method

Preheat oven to 400'F. Take a deep bowl and beat together eggs,and milk. Pour this mixture in a large skillet and cook it in butter. Fill each tortilla with this mouthwatering mixture, alongwith half quantity of cheese. Roll burrito and gently position them seam side down on a baking dish.
